“Stars that shine so bright,
  turn into pure light ...”
Supernova

Born in the Libyan Desert in 1950, Simon’s father was a British Army Officer acting as the District Commissioner in that area. Simon spent his first four years there until the family returned to live in Surrey, England.

Always very original and creative in his endeavours, Simon attended Art College and later worked as a graphic designer in London during the late ‘60’s. It was there that he met many people in the music business and was inspired to buy his first guitar.

It was also at this time that he became aware that his life lacked something essential to his well-being. His sister Tilly beckoned him to come to Canada to meet a remarkable Indian teacher she was studying with in Montreal. He arrived in 1971 and met his teacher Swami Shyam, a meeting which changed the course of his life…

In 1980, inspired by a friend who dropped by his apartment en route to India, Simon left his job and London lifestyle, and went to Kullu, the Valley of the Gods in India, where Swamiji was living and teaching.

Song-writing began about that time and his lyrics reflected both a devotional nature and an imaginative style. He also illustrated the life around him with delightful humour.

It was at this time that he met his wife-to-be, Mohani, a Canadian student of architecture who had also been studying with Swamiji for some years. They returned to Canada for 5 years to raise their son, and again returned en famille to Kullu to continue their studies. During this time, Simon wrote over 130 songs and made numerous tapes and CD’s. He gave weekly concerts for all those who loved his music, as well as performing in England, Canada and the US during trips abroad.

Simon’s songs speak for themselves, and celebrate his finding of the absolute truth he sought and lived.

In February 2000, he was diagnosed with a brain tumour and returned to Canada for treatment.

He left his body the following year in March, and we all continue to celebrate his life, his song.
